This is question sixteen in my ongoing campaign to expose the lack of knowledge towards GOD, the Bible, and the religions that follow them that would explain why most Christians sound totally insane.

16. What is Sin?

I recently asked a few questions involving Jesus and why he didn't sin, and the answers I got served as a reminder that the average person does not understand what the dickens they're reading or talking about. So let's be on the saye side and focus on an individual element from a multi-elemented topic..... What is sin.

1 a : an offense against religious or moral law b : an action that is or is felt to be highly reprehensible c : an often serious shortcoming : FAULT
2 a : transgression of the law of God b : a vitiated state of human nature in which the self is estranged from God

No really, sin is doing or thinking (that includes thinking about thingking about thinking about sin) anything that God tells us not to do in the ten commandments or not doing or thinking anything that God tells us to do in the ten commandments.
EVERYONE sins. Not just Joe Killer or Jill Poor Thoughts, but every human.
Thankfully there is one human that didn't sin, Jesus Christ, he being true and wholly God as well as true and wholly man was able to live his whole life and not sin. Not even once!
He then died on the cross for the whole worlds sins.
Jesus rose on the cross on the third day after he died and proceded in ascending to heaven to be with God the Father and Holy Spirit untill the end of the world comes and he decends as he ascended to judge the whole world both past , present , and future.

First, let us define what "sin" is. It is an old English word in archery that means "missed the mark". If you did not hit the bullseye, you were called a "sinner". Now there are many sins (little s and plural) but there is only one Sin (capitol S and singular). Sin is a positional state that seperates you from God. When Christ died, He saved us from Sin. That is, the postitional state of being "in Sin" has been eliminated. Now do we continue to commit sins? Yes. It is hard to walk in this world and not get your feet dirty. 1 John 1:8 states,

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."

However, now, because of Jesus, we can have a daily cleansing...

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

We are now clean.

A good way to look at this is you deciding to adopt an orphan. You do the legal stuff and the child is no longer an orpan but your son or daughter. This is what Jesus did on the cross. Allowed us to become adopted into the family of God.

Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Now, does your new child play in the mud and get dirty? Yes. That is what hoses and bath tubs are for. Is he/she still your child? Yes. Do they do things wrong and need discipline? Of course! Are they still your child? Yes.

Sin is anything not in harmony with God's personality, standards, ways, and will, all of which are holy. It may involve wrong conduct, failure to do what should be done, ungodly speech, unclean thoughts,or desires or motives that are selfish. The Bible tells us the difference between inherited sin and willful sin and between an act of sin over which a person is repentant and the practice of sin.

Sin is the failure to obey God- it doesn't even require an overt act, merely thinking about being disobedient to God is sinful.

Well on the "saye side". Think of sin as breaking laws that govern a society and moral laws taught to you by your parents and spiritual leaders. Neither of them are perfect, but then again, neither are you!

The Old Testament says that sin is anything that goes against the Levitical Law while the New Testament is even stronger: sin is anything not done in faith and the act of doing something that you know you shouldn't do.

Sin is, biblically speaking, the transgression of divine precepts or conditions passed by God to men about how to live their lives.

Sociologically speaking, it's a religious concept that religions and political leaders often use to mantain the statu quo, certain situations of unfairness, and their overall supremacy over the rest of mankind. The concept of sin is often used to maintain order, and certain moral and ethical precepts, in human societies and oftenly to prevent revolts or to justify political positions and even the power and dominance of certain individuals over others.
Basically, it's a tool of dominance that attempts to mantain the stability of a political or ethical system by using certain ideas or precepts to resist science and change, and to maintain the dominance over some individuals by scaring them.

Sin is when one of two things happen

A) when you don't do what God tells you you should do. This is the sin of omission. An example would be not tithing or not keeping the sabbath holy.

B) I forget the name of this one. This is when you disobey what God and the Bible tells you. This would be like Murder or adultery or homosexuality.

I hope that this helps you. Sin is when one of those two things happen.

ok, I will tell you my view of sin, listen carefully and try to keep up.
god is a powerful energy force that created everything. that monitor you are reading was created by god, you were created by god, you are a part of god. when you sin (go against gods love) you widen the distance between you and god. you , being the unforgiving human you are , in your mind when you sin, you think god can't forgive me for what I have done, so you separate yourself from god a little more, each time you sin, you create a greater distance between you and god, which is your creator and supplier of all life forces. it isn't that god doesn't forgive you, you don't feel worthy of god when you sin, you create the distance in your heart. the farther you get from gods love, the Less love you feel. you are punished by your sins not for them. everyone can be forgiven of their sins. if you have a child out of wedlock and you life goes to hell in a hand basket, you know why, you are being punished by your sins.

For me, sin is anything that directs me towards a way that is going to cause pain to others or myself.
Nothing that has to do with a law or anything like that.
