I've almost always been a loner, but I am very willing to change this at this new school with these new people I don't know.

First of all, be yourself. True real people will respect that most of all, rather than you pretending to be something you are not. Secondly, get involved in some sort of club or extra-curricular activity that interests you. This is a way to meet people with interests the same as yours. You can always start a conversation with somebody about a common interest. You can do this! Just go for it!

There are already some good answers here. Take time for yourself in the morning - good hygiene and grooming will make you feel more confident from the start. Practice listening skills - it's easy to make friends when you show sincere interest in other people. The ideas on extra-curricular clubs are great. If your school has a service club that would be a great way to meet people who are kind and outgoing. Volunteering to help others is a great way to make friends, and you would have great memories as well.

Just be yourself and be friendly . Make the first gesture to introduce yourself . You could ask where the cafeteria is or something .
