I've made it to E-5, but loved being a corporal more. When I was promoted, my Major (a mustanger) said Sergeant was the best rank he held, other than Captain. Which rank did you enjoy the most?

For me it was when I made Sgt E-5. I was already Supply Chief for my battery as a Cpl in a Gunny billet! There was a LOT of resentment from the other SupChfs because they were all Staff Sgts and weren't picked fo the job. My billet was at HqBtry 11th Mar, and so although I was junior in rank, I was senior in billet to all of them. Once I made Sergeant, and brought the unit up in its inspections, I got the respect and deference I had EARNED, which is the best way after all. Semper Fi, and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I have been a Private, PFC, Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, 2nd Lt., 1st Lt. And throughout all of those ranks the best rank that I have held is Sergeant. I have been in the infantry the entire time so I Have some real perspective.

Staff Sergeant at Presidio of Monterey, Defense Language Institute. Not only got to be a Platoon Sergeant, but I also got to teach Chinese Mandarin. Between SGT and SSG these are the two best ranks if you like working with troops and sharing knowledge and developing skills.

I started out in 1966 as an E-1. By 1969, I was E-4. I was out 2 years and went back in (1971.) 6 months later, I was E-5. When I was medically retired in 1983, I had made it to WO-1. I liked that rank best.

Staff Sergeant was the best. After I got promoted to Sergeant First Class it was all admin junk. As a Staff Sergeant I was actually able to do my job.

i would have to say being a specialist is the best because you dont usually have the responsibility of a sergeant, (dont have to worry about getting your butt chewed because of something your soldier did). and you dont get treated like a private any more. my friends and i use to call the specialist rank the sham shield. :)

I just velcro-ed (not pinned anymore) an E6 patch on my husband 2 days ago. He loves his job anyway, but he's enjoying his leadership role much more than he liked being a pvt. (He's been a section sgt. for a while 'cuz he was senior E5 in his platoon.)

I am a CPT Now but the most fun I had was at PFC or 1LT

PFC because I was only in charge of me and did all sorts of crazy fun stuff.

1LT because I loved being a platoon leader in Iraq.
