I would like to find out more about my geneology. I recently received a family history album as a gift and would like to start working on it. Most of my family lives in California. I'd like to know the origin of the name Prouty and where we came from.

is handy. You can search a number of ways; MMN Prouty, Father's surname Prouty, etc.
Since it covers 1940 - 1995, it may not be helpful if your family all moved there in 1996; but if they have been there since 1906, you may find lots of dead ancestors. About 60% have MMN filled in, which is very handy.
