Well, it's not as if the church was going to pay someone's way into heaven, so I'm not sure I get how you put this question together.

The church needs money because the church helps parishoners with things that involve money. They house people when their homes burn down...They feed people when they're hungry...They clothe people who can't afford to buy their own. The church also does things like run teen centers, which obviously can't open without funding.

The church also needs money to pay their employees. Not everyone who does work at the church is a volunteer.

I am not sure how the two are connected, but I will try to explain why churches need money....

Churches have a mortgages that needs to be paid off. Churches need money for maintenance. They need it for utility bills, and energy bills. They need it to be able to upgrade what ever needs to be upgraded. Money is used for everything that needs to be bought, fixed, or supplied for the church. Churches need money to survive.

Where should that money come from? From those who attend that church. Tithing is a biblical concept that all should follow. If you attend a church, you should support that church with your money.

To tithe is to give a tenth. The first occurrence of tithing in the Bible is in Genesis 14:20 where Abraham gives God a tenth of his possessions. Jacob also vows to tithe in Genesis 28:22. Tithing was also a requirement under the Mosaic law (Lev. 27:30-32; Num. 18:21-28; Deu. 14:22). A tenth of all income was to be given over to the Levitical priesthood for their living and for the maintenance of the Lord's service. The blessings of God were promised to those who were obedient to His laws of tithing (Mal. 3:8-10).
Today, although we are no longer under the Mosaic law, Bible-believing Christians still practice tithing because God accepted tithes even BEFORE the law of Moses. If an Old Testament Jew, whose sins had not yet been paid for, can give a tenth of his income to the Lord, how much more should WE be willing to give, whose sins HAVE been washed away in the blood of Christ? Paul said that God loves a "cheerful giver" (II Cor. 9:7).

Well, people worship together. It helps strengthen faith. In a country like this one, a Christian all on his own without any reinforcement might lose his way, go off the deep end, and become Unitarian or something.

That is why there are churches. And we follow Jacob's tradition of giving 10% to the lord. And Jesus said to give with a happy heart. since we can't just directly hand it over to God, we give as close as we can. And the church is to strengthen the faith of the members, to spread god's word, and to help others.

So we tithe.

the church usually asks for donations to keep up with the appearance of it. Like if any repairs need to be done they use that money. I dont think giving money to the church has anything to do with going to heaven.

Men need money, and do not wish to earn it, so they create religions and preach tithing.
