my husband wants me to start mixing milk with his formula and I have always heard that if you give a child milk before they are a year old it can cause them to have worse allergies.. he's almost eight months, and a friend of ours did this with their child at five months but im just not sure about it.

If you start whole milk too early they can develop allergies, or make them sick. However, when one of my children was 6mths old, I started her on whole milk because I could no longer afford the formula, and she did well. No adverse reactions. All I can say is try it for a few days and see how he tolerates it. Any digestive problems, like vomiting or diahrea, stop immediately and wait a few months. Good luck

My daughter had very mild milk allergies as a baby, so after breastfeeding for 7 months, switched her to soy-based formula. Then it was to goats milk which is better than cows milk because it breaks down easier for the baby...it is the closest thing to breast milk actually. I used goats milk to make banana pudding and in her pablum, etc. Around age 18 months I think she started on regular whole milk. Whatever kind of milk you use though, make sure it is pasteurized.

So in answer to your question, try mixing it with goats milk. It is about twice as expensive but is better for baby.

WAIT!!!! you have to wait til your baby is at least a yr old, then it'll be ok to mix milk with formula, start off with 7 oz of formula and 1 oz of milk do that for a week, then the next do 6 oz of formula and 2 oz of milk, add one oz extra amount of milk and subtract one oz of formula each week til there is only milk in the bottle and he is off the formula, but please please wait til he is at least a yr old, it wont hurt to start mixing the milk with formula when he is 11 and a half months old, that way by the time it is his first birthday, he'll be on milk and not formula! right now at 7 months cows milk can be harsh for a baby, he can get constipated from the milk!

Have your husband go with you to your son's next well-baby check-up. Write down all of your husbands "demands" and "ideas" before going. Your "friend" who gave their 5 month old baby cow milk was stupid(to put it nicely).

If you feel the need to give your baby another creatures breast-milk, you should wait until after their first birthday and introduce it slowly.

I know from medical sources that parents should not use milk for children under 1 year old. the thing is that baby's stomach can't digest cow milk (goat milk, etc), it is a very hard food for it. Do not give your baby milk. There are special dairy products for babies - baby yogurt, etc. They are specially treated and are safe for babies. Check in stores.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Please don't give your baby milk yet!!! It is true about the allergies thing and also, it can make your baby sick!! If anything, use extra formula instead of the regular amount to give your baby.

no don't do it, even doctors will say no, keep him on formula until 1 year old, he is old enough for baby food though.

WAIT!! I tried it with my youngest son and he would have seriously bad diarrea because their little tummies cannot digest it yet.
