Im a dental nurse from Surrey, hi, basically it depends where the cavity is, the NHS will cover you for the front 3 teeth each side top & bottom with a white composite filling, but unfortunatly from the 4th teeth backwards it will be silver. Suppose it also depends if your dentists nice!!

No, sorry I don't think you can. You can get white fillings in your front teeth on the NHS, but for back teeth it's silver ones I'm afraid. So you're either going to have to just put up with a silver one (it's only one tooth, right?) or maybe reach some agreement with your mum that you'll pay her back in installments if she pays now for you to get a white one.

They are more expensive but well worth the money - I have silver fillings and hate them. It's about £10-15 more per filling for white ones (if I remember rightly) and I thought it a waste of money at the time but silver filings are very noticable even at the back and now I am afraid of opening my mouth wide in public and as a consequence I hardly ever smile or laugh anymore out of habit.
Ask your mother to read what I have written here as having silver fillings has seriously damaged my social life and has generally made things less fun for me. If she simply cannot spare the extra money could you use your pocket money or savings to help pay - or it could be your birthday gift for this year?
Go for white fillings they are 1000 times better and worth the extra money.

Your fillings will be grey on the NHS not silver, they just look that colour. You have to pay if you want white fillings because as far as the NHS is concerned the grey ones are just as good, which they are.
I wouldn't worry about what colour they are. Nobody, except your dentist, is going to be able to see that far into your mouth, unless you have a habit of making everyone you meet stare into your gob.

White fillings are more expensive and you will find it hrd to get dentist to put them in anywhere other than in front visable teeth. Sucks I know but it shouldnt cost that much more to get the white stuff.

I think if you have a good dentist they will offer you a choice. My daughter sings so when she had a filling the dentist offered her white.
