How is it there to raise a family?

You need to broaden that question. I moved from the area to raise a family (went to Minnesota). The suburbs are very nice. Northern Virgina and parts of Maryland are fine.

Recently US News (I think) did an article on the best high schools. Many of the top 100 were from Maryland around the DC area.

It's like any other major metropolitan area--- cost of living is high and there are some rough neighborhoods. But you can easily raise a family there if you watch your budget and pay attention to your kids. I have a friend who lives in what used to be a really hideous neighborhood (it's improved a lot in the last 10 years) and he's done an excellent job raising his three kids as a single dad. Super impressive for any single dad (or single mom, too), even moreso considering he's paid for it all by being a bartender.

Washington DC is like any other town... Yeah, it might be very "city like", but it all depends on you as parent raising your child(ren)...

Washington DC is a beautiful place to live in... This is where children can learn how to treat each other as equals because DC is a melting pot of ALL races...

Its expensive, the average single family 4 bedroom house costs around $400-$500,000 in the outer suburbs. Fairfax County in Virginia has one of the best school systems in the US, but the high schools are very crowded. I've been here for over 20 years, raised a couple kids, and am quite satisfied.

I live in MD, but my brother lives in D.C. If you got a place to stay and a job, and more than one person living with you, it's a pretty good place.Certain areas.
