Give him a dry bath with Colgate men's shaving foam..just the cheapest one. Wipe it dry with a cloth, and he will smell sweet. It is actually good for his skin and coat.

Doggie smell is something similar to B.O. in humans. It's a natural way for our body to rid itself of toxins, yet we treat it as if it's a disease! Dogs emit their natural odor because of the oily hair that covers their bodies and unfortunately there aren't too many things other than bleach to rid your doggie of the odor, and I don't recommend you give him a bleach bath either! If you go to your local pet shop though, there are plenty of perfumed and medicated shampoos that you can use on the little guy without worrying about drying his skin. If you are dedicated to finding a less expensive home remedy, you can always use a delicate baby shampoo.

Try a homemade "dry" shampoo. Baking soda really does a good job of absorbing odor. You can add dried lavender, or vanilla bean to it to add a scent to your dogs fur. Just rub a generous amount of the baking soda mixture all over your dog into the coat, let it sit about 5 minutes and then bush your dog out to remove the baking soda (and the dog odors) from the coat.
Herbal Flea Powder and Doggie Deodorizer Recipe. 1 Extra large box of baking soda, 2 lbs Cornstarch. Blend the following to a fine powder: 2 cups dried pennyroyal, 2 cups dried lavender, 1 cup dried Rosemary. The following essential oils: 20 drops citronella 20 drops lemon 30 drops pennyroyal 20 drops rosemary Mix all ingredients and leave the scents mingle a few days. Sprinkle on your pets coat.
Hope this helps.

Try a better dog food. Dogs should smell like dogs, but not have a "doggie" smell.

What do you mean by smell better? RU taking about his/her breath? Body odor? Wet dog smell? The remedy depends on the ailment.
I agree with Haley...ask a vet.
