To my knowledge buying a home does not stop benefits and does not affect the income any more than the rent of an apartment for example.

you have as much right to buy a home as anyone else and no it wont effect your benefits look at it this way what is the difference in paying rent on something you will never own than buying a place that will one day be yours

No they must live on the streets forever, on disability. How would buying a house effect your income. If you got a job then it would be lost.

They could take the house. So yes it could affect your benefits. They wanted my aunt to sell any property she owned before they would give her benefits. It probably depends on the state, so I would talk to a social services agency.
