because of the bactoria and pesticides that are used on fresh fruits when they are growing. some people just take the fruits and vegys and cook them until mushy so all the harmful stuff is out of them then they can feed it to their babys. i used to do that with my children. my middle child loved mashed potatoes. just dont put spices or butter on anything cause they cannot digest it.

Babies can eat fresh garden vegies in their first year just make sure you boil them and mash them real good so they don't choke and don't add any salt or spices cause it could kill them

I don't see why they couldn't, actually it would be more healthy making your own baby food, (in a food processor)with out any preservatives.
