I'm growing out my perm-damaged hair and cutting it off little by little. As of now, about 1/3 of my hair is damaged. I would like to get it lightened but am not sure if that is possible with the damage that I have. Do people go lighter if their hair isn't completly healthy?

I wouldn't advise it. Wait until it is all healthy and give it a break from chemicals. Then go easy with the lightening. It's best to let your hair recover from each lot of damage before you do it again. I used to lighten my hair. It was very short though so I could wait until one lot was fully grown and cut out before the next.

Getting your hair colored makes it damaged, and extremly dry. To get soft, natural, lighter hair go have a day of fun in the sun. The sun lightens your hair naturally. Remember to wear sunscreen, and just have fun. Before you know it, you will have lighter hair, possibly with gorgeous highlights.

If you find the right stylist then you can have highlights and a great cut. It may cost a good bit of money, but beauty is worth it.
