The renters kids had a field day in their bedroom and now I am left to paint it - tried washing the walls and nothing seems to come off. Is there a product that might cover this up so I don't have to do a darker base coat and then the lighter paint?

I can tell you that the Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser works WONDERS! You'll be so surprised... it gets off what a
sponge or cloth won't. Lots of different uses for this miracle
product.

Check with your local paint store. They will have a primer that is designed for just that thing. I can't remember the brand (perhaps it's "Kilz"), but I've used such a product before (on walls painted crayola purple!).

Even with the extra-thick primer, you may still need two coats of primer over those areas.

But, if you go to a real paint store (not just the paint counter at Home Depot, or Wal-mart), you'll find your solution.

hate to say this but the best thing you can do is put a primer coat on the wall first. Some stores will tint the primer the same color as your paint. I use the KILZ brand.
