when you go back to school do you get a letter telling you your home room teacher and what things to buy?

i usally do and now they arent doing this which is stupid! i go back to school next week and all this time i was waiting for a suply kist and my friend went to the school asking for one and now they tell us they arent sending them anymore!!!
