Alice in Chains... The vocalist is the late Layne Staley. I really dig their album Facelift. Try listening to Bleed The Freak and We Die Young. Cool songs too.

Yeag, singing isn't just about voice, it takes good vocal chords, sense of music (not necessarily knowledge of it though), an ear for aesthetics, good memory and most of all, interest in delivering the best. Men and women can both be good singers, it would be hard to judge. In general, the voice and talent that I appreciate most would be the better singer according to me. I enjoy the most recent chick-music as much as I enjoy legends like The Beatles, even when they're nowhere near comparable (no offense to Beatles fans :-D )

Alice In Chains. My daughter drove me nuts with that song and video when she was in high school so I doubt that I will ever forget it.
