Hello emmiegsmom

You could use a limited speed (32 km/hr maximum) electric scooter without licence or insurance because it is classified as a power assisted bicycle. Or you can drive a limited speed electric motorcycle (70 km/hr maximum) with a regular licence and insurance. But, I believe your daughter has to be 16 to drive any powered vehicle.

This is information from the best electric scooters and motorcycles I could find locally when I went shopping for myself. If you read the info. I have included here you will see why I chose an electric vehicle.
I took this from the web site of a shop in Vancouver, but their scooters are carried by Scooter Underground in Victoria as well:

What are the advantages of having an electric scooter?
a) Freedom - it is classified as a bicycle and as such can benefit from all the freedom you have riding a regular bike.
b) Economical – don’t pay for parking, insurance, driver’s license, gas, maintenance, pennies to charge. If used as a substitute for a car it pays off in 4 months.
c) Safer than a bike – the scooters look like, and have all the safety features of, a gas motorcycle. From our customer’s experience, car drivers pay scooter riders more respect than if they ride a regular bicycle.
d) Quiet – no engine or transmission noise. It is literally noiseless. (I believe this applies to the brushless motors only, which is what these people make)
e) Environmental – it is greener than using a bus. Utilizes the idle night energy when you charge it. Batteries are recycled and there is no emission;
f) A lot of fun – you will believe when you try it.

Who would benefit from an electric scooter?
a) People who want to avoid heavy traffic. Since our MOTORINO™ scooters are classified by Transport Canada as Power Assisted Bicycles they travel beside the traffic or anywhere where regular bicycles are used.
b) People who work in the city and are tired of looking for, or paying for, parking. All MOTORINO™ scooters can be legally parked on the sidewalk and have security antitheft features.
c) Daily commuters traveling up to 60-70 km on flat roads or 30-40 on hills. The high torque motor provides enough power to handle 15 degrees hills;
d) Commuters who hate to get wet in rainy weather. The specially designed for MOTORINO™ scooters rain cape which is included with the scooter, and the visor helmet, protect the rider completely in rain.

I hope that is helpful

OK,

15 and a permit, AND a helmet!

Do not buy a Chinese junk scooter! That is what they sell. Do not buy from a website, there is no recourse for warranty, etc. Do not buy a Schwinn, they are Chinese junk with a name sticker.

Go to a real shop, and get a Honda, Yamaha, Kymco, or Piaggio, those are scooters you will be able to ride until you can drive a car, and be able to resell for a down payment for that car. You might like motorcycles by then, which would be cool too! You will have to get a 50cc scooter until you have an MC permit. You need a moped license in most states at your age. Being smart about it, may impress your parents too, and they will help. You do not have to tell them that your wisdom came from a 43 year old!

Please state what state/country you are in. Otherwise there is no way to really answer the question. In my state (Connecticut), you need to have a valid drivers license to operate the 50cc scooters and a valid drivers license with a motorcycle endorsement to operate the scooters over 50cc. Don't give up hope, a few states allow 14 year olds on mopeds.

Also, most of the scooters listed on that web site are junk. You will be lucky if you get one season out of them. I have even read stories of them never running out of the crate. They do have a couple Schwinn models listed. They are ok and my local HD dealer even sells them. LOL.

I would recommend finding a reputable local scooter shop. You can also got to look at Honda Metros or Yamaha Zuma, Vino, C3 or Genuine Scooters Buddy. They are a much better choice and will last many many years if taken care of.

Any motorbike with 50cc or extra is (legally besides) a bike, yet in spite of engine displacement, you will nicely be killed on any 2 wheeled motor vehicle be it a Vespa, Honda, Harley, or Schwinn. possibly you experience which you at the instant are not waiting for the Honda CB350s and only have not made that connection on your head yet. My opinion is do not enable concern decrease your suggestions. Take a bike protection type after which you additionally could make a extra suited decision of what to journey. If this is basically a displacement element and you have already pronounced which you like Vespas look on the Vespa GTS 250. Honda and Yamaha even have 250cc scooters. If 250cc at the instant are not sufficient, there are greater displacement scooters on the marketplace to boot. Yamaha Majesty 4 hundred Honda Silverwing six hundred Suzuki Burgman 650 i exploit a Honda Reflex scooter to holiday to paintings. Is the Reflex extra suited or cooler then the above motorcycles? i don't be conscious of, however the Reflex is my determination of scooter, and that i'm chuffed with that decision. it somewhat is my wish which you would be as chuffed with the motorbike you opt to journey as i'm with the single i opt to journey. journey secure

Generally a regular driver's license is all you need to drive a scooter, so whatever age you can get a license. The advantage of scooters over motorcycles is that you don't need a motorcycle license to drive one. And they get really good gas mileage.

In Texas, at 15, you can get a License for a Moped (Class M with a K restriction.) This allows you to ride a 50cc bike that does no more than 30 MPH. When I did this many years ago, I just took a written test.

Well the first question I have for you, have you even gone down to or called the DMV? If not, talk to them or go to your city's website or nearest large city in your state and search the question out there. THere's a good chance you'll get your answer.

Otherwise, you be given erroneous info and your faux pas could be a daughter getting her first traffic ticket.

Cheers
