John M I understand what you are saying completely . I don't feel intimitade when people use big words but I do feel as if they are trying to put on a front when they talking about something and try to squeeze in very important words when they are completely uneccessary

It is so annoying! but People will always do that to sound smart because if they do, it reflects to them in a better way than most. People in debates will use big words too because they want to sound omniptoent o people will go to their side.

no longer anybody does it to seem extra sensible or state-of-the-paintings... I do many cases, yet purely with the aid of fact it is exciting for me to apply vast, unusual words ... and confuse people! yet I purely do it for exciting and because i like literature! I get exhilaration from making use of words that are unique and that i've got considered in some thing i'm examining ... i'm a Capricorn with a Aquarius becoming and Libra moon. although, to respond to your question, i think of Virgo's would try this in many cases.

I hate to break it to you kid, but "inclement" is hardly a big word.

Some people like to use what you might consider fancy or snobby words because . . . they like them. Some people get bored using the same words all the time. The English language is so rich; it would be a shame if we only used "easy" words to communicate with one another.

Also, some of us are studying for the GRE . . . ;)

Maybe he has a good memory with a lot of vocabulary and wants to use it? Its not a bad thing to be intelligent.

Another reason why he does it may be the same reason people use words to make themselves seem 'cool'.

Generally, people don't use words to sound intelligent. They use them because THEY ARE INTELLIGENT. Ask anyone who has a full education (university) and they will tell you that they must modify the words they use in conversation dependent upon whom they speak with/to, The less educated the person is they are communicating with, the more they must (excuse the expression) 'dumb down' the words they use. The more educated the person is...the less they need to adjust the words they choose. This is done for a least a couple of reasons, of course. 1) To make themselves better understood without the need for lengthy explanation(s); 2) So as not to offend those who would feel intimidated/inferior because they cannot or do not understand what is being communicated. (It sounds as if you might perhaps fall into the latter category.) Words are tools. Just the same as an experienced mechanic or carpenter knows of many tools and how to use them...even tricks of using them due to use and practice...the same applies to words. The more educated one is...the more words he/she knows. (The more tools they have to communicate) The less educated one is...sadly...the likelihood is they have a rather limited selection of words (tools) to employ (use). To be angry with someone who uses words they have had the advantage to learn (whereas you haven't) is like being angry at someone because they have more money than you do.

MAYBE HIS TRYING TO CHANGE HIS VOCABULARY
OR THE WAY HE TALKS

OR HE WANTS PEOPLE TO SEE HIM AS SMART,
AND OR IMPRESS PEOPLE
ONE OF THOSE SHOULD BE IT

He uses large words like that because he can. If he's intelligent, there's no reason to think it's stupid for him to use his large vocabulary. Maybe he like just um doesn't wanna be another person who talks like this, like you know?

They don't use words to "sound smart", they are smart people and use correct wording. You should try it, maybe then someone will think you are intelligent too.
