You can plan out a trip across multiple mass transit systems.
Lafayette to Cupertino is about 3 hrs for $10
Really depends on where you are at each end and the time and day of travel.

Take BART to Fremont,
buy VTA day pass to take 180 to San Jose
and take 22 and 55
