In New Zealand, we have a huge binge drinking problem. It's acceptable for teens to get drunk. I know 11 year olds who have been drunk before.
I'm 18, which is the legal age for buying alcohol. I don't like drinking much though.
My father and step father were both alcoholics. I've had very bad experiences with alcohol and I've seen the effects if can have on people. A lot of my friends don't understand this and they think I'm dumb for not drinking, but honestly I don't care because alcoholism is genetic. I've got enough to worry about without alcohol. I have a few drinks when I feel like I'm in a safe environment (i.e. with parents around and when I know I have a sober driver).
I have friends who have gone out and gotten drunk twice a week for the last 3 years. They're so screwed up. I don't hang around with them much anymore. They've moved onto drugs and are pretty messed up.
But to most teens here, drinking isn't really a big deal, they just go out and do it, the tolerance level of adults and the police is far too low.
I don't think you're stupid at all. You do what's right for you. Just think how wrinkly and old looking your friend's going to be and how beautiful you'll be =]

Ya I think drinking is grand but smoking is sick.... I'm 14 and I've never goten really drunk or anything but ya I do drink.
Why is drinking okay?
Well it tastees nice, makes you happy and its not bad for you in moderation.
Why is smoking bad?
It tastes disgusting, its effects are irreversible, it serves no purpose--- like it doesn't make you happy, it just gives you cravings... so when your in shopping and you want to smoke you've to go outside and drag all your friends with you and they get sooo annoyed when you do this...
I was supposed to be going out with this lad before and he was forever getting drunk and then being hungover at school the next day... Obviously thats no good but I never get that bad and rarely have it on a school night... So whats the problem?
I think drinkin solely for the purpose of getting locked is sad attention seeking and immature,, only drink until your merry and then once your happy wont a bottle of water do ya grand?!?

I don't think it's right, but I will admit, I drink occasionally too. Or, I drank occasionally, I'm nearly 8 months pregnant now, so I haven't drank at all through my pregnancy. It's not right, but it's going to happen. I just hope that when my daughter is a teenager if she does drink she'll at least tell me so I can do the best I can to make sure that she doesn't do anything really stupid.

I understand what you are saying! i am 15 and i have never had a drink in my whole life! (unless you count church !?!?) All (well 98%) of my friends drink but i see no need to! Why cant people wait until they are 21... i just dont get it! And i hear what you are saying about death and drunk drivers! I dont know... I STRONGLY agree with no drinking when you are under 21! and even after that people shouldn't drink that much.

I've never tried alcohol, and I don't think teens should drink because it makes them violent.

It's ok for anybody to drink, just as long as they do it responsibly. Unlike the general opinion, there is a big difference between getting mashed once in a while and being an alcoholic with no future. Seriously all you parents out there, lighten up.

I really don't care wether they choose to drink or not.
I mean, it's not going to affect me unless we're on the road.
And teens are not allowed to drink where I'm from because it's against this countrys dominant religon.
Even if, lets say, I did live in the states.
I wouldn't mind it because they're messing up their future, why should I interfere?
- Ciao.
