The Mets traded catchers with the Nats - the Mets got youth and potential, the Nats got some leadership and experience. I think the Mets got the better of that trade , but time will tell.
Overall, the Mets stood pat with their hand. They have a good team with loads of talent. If they can banish the ghost of season part - they could have another terrifiying year.

The Nats got an experienced catcher - end of sentence. They really did nothing to move to the next level. I feel bad for some of their truly talented players - like Ryan Zimmerman. They are stuck. At least they have a new park to play in.

The Fish . . . next topic. Have you ever seen a team so bent on self destruction?! Honestly.

Braves - got Glavin - not a big deal. Again, I see little changing from how they did last year.

The Phils - lost Rowand (painful but not devestating) and Bourne - fun to watch but not the end of the world. With Jenkins, Victorinio, Burrell and Werth, the outfield will be slightly above average though not as good as last year. The infield is one of the best in the majors, except for 3rd. Pitching is the weak spot (as always) and unless they can find someone to play as Kendrick did last year - they could be in trouble.

Painful predictions - - - -
The end of the season will see the Mets and Phils as 1 and 2, with the Braves a few points back. The Nats could have a surprise year and overtake the Braves, but I don't see them above third. Fish fans - get ready for a long season. At least you have Disney World.

The big three in the NL East- Phils, Mets, Braves- all have holes/question marks. I don't know if the balance of power has shifted one way or another due to trades or signings. How many starts will ancient El Duque make for the Mets? Will Pedro make 30 starts? Will Perez prove last year was no fluke, or will he start walking everyone in sight again? Can the Phils staff stabilize? Moyer will be 45!! Gordon pitched last season with a partly torn rotator-you really gonna depend on him as a key part of the pen? Glavines gonna be 42, Smoltz 41. The Braves rotation beyond that, you have Hudson and I'm-not-too-impressed. None of these teams blow me away, though they're not bad. Tough to pick between 'em right now.

Well the Phillies brought in Brad Lidge. As a Mets fan, Lidge will obviously dominate over Wagner, because that's just the way things are going at the moment, looking back to September. The Mets made a completely sucky trade with the Nationals, sending away Lastings Milledge. They got a new catcher, Brian Snieder, or however you spell his name, and Ryan Church. It's actually pretty hard to tell what the outcome of the NL East will be. I think the Mets, obviously, but it will include the same contenders from last year. Mets, Phils, Braves

biggest move in NL east. Marlins loosing Cabrera and the D-Train.

Biggest addition= Brad Lidge trade by Philadelphia.

Tom Glavine is not an up grade. Opponent batting average was .281 last year, and now he will have to FACE the Mets, not play on their team.

Brain Schneider is not as good as Paul LoDuca, Paul produces more runs, and calls just as good a game behind the plate.

Basically here is what I see.

New York Mets brought in Brian Schneider as a catcher. Now you might look at this move as nothing big but, he is a fantastic defensive catcher a large upgrade from Paul LoDuca. Schneider never will wow you with the bat but he's an excellent handler of pitchers and it's a decent move for them. I think it helps their younger arms like Maybe & Humber....The addition of Ryan Church is alright...it provides depth when Beltran or Alou (Alou will get hurt like always)...get hurt!

Philadelphia Phillies....did the normal bonehead thing. I am not THRILLED about the loss of Aaron Rowand, but he had an unbelievable year. This upcoming one DEF. will not be that good. He played over his head last year. He is a good guy and wants to win and does anything to win. I wouldn't have gotten rid of Michael Bourne. He's a young outfielder with good potential and SPEED SPEED SPEED. Left with Burrell in left, Victorino (natural RF), & Jayson Werth in the outfield. The Phillies refuse to look for "QUALITY" starting pitching. Why did they ever get Adam Eaton back? Plus their bullpen is weak. They will move Myers back to a stater so....Hamels, Myers, Kendrick...decent 1-2-3...but they need another ROCK!

Florida Marlins! What can you say about demolishing a team with the loss of Willis (overrated) and Cabrera? Miggy is a heck of a player but isn't in shape...put on too much weight for a 22-23 year old kid. He's ALWAYS injured too....Florida kinda did a smart thing doing that. They won't compete for a division or wild card title WITH those two.

Washington Nationals...it's the Nationals I doubt they compete anytime soon. Nothing exciting ....

Atlanta Braves....Got Tommy Glavine back from the Mets...not a big deal. He's still a serviceable player. He's a lefty and is crafty but even his fastball and change aren't nearly THAT good. Braves are in trouble too w/o Andruw Jones...he's on his last leg...but still a top 3 defensive NL fielder!

the atlanta braves chose not to attempt to resign andruw jones at all. They traded edgar renteria for some people who suck. They brought tom glavine back from the mets, i hope he plays good. They also signed a young outfielder from theastros named josh anderson who will likely start in center. They signed javy lopez to a minor league contract, but id hope he can get back up and play back up for mccan, ive always liked lopez. and guyabove me how can you think the mets? they have no pitching at ALL and wont be able to keep up with the phillies and braves pitching staff. they cant win a game in the end of the season and chocke worse then any toher team in mlb history. the phillies probably have the best chance, but i put braves two, mets third. Dont forget the nationals though, they look good this year.

the only thank you to verify if the strikes make experience is from the outcomes they produce on the tip of the season. usual managers have their motives for figuring out on one participant over yet another. As for Piniella, he's won over a million,500 video games as a supervisor, won the supervisor of the year two times, and led the devil Rays to a place different than final in the AL East. the guy knows a thank you to regulate a set.

Everyone made some very good points already, so I won't repeat them. Here's my prediction:

1. Mets
2. Phillies
3. Braves
4. Nats
5. Marlins

Mets/Phillies will be very close again unless the Mets get a top-tier SP... If Philly does this, it's a toss-up between the two teams for sure.

As usual, the Phils make some bonehead moves.
Michael Bourne is fun to watch. he's inexperienced, but he runs like a scared rabbit. I've seen him score from first on a single.
Aaron Rowand. Brings someting to the ballpark you must have to win. Fire in his heart,!!!
He'll do anything to beat you, even if it means a month on the DL.
Both are gone, and, I'm afraid, so are the Phils chance on getting into ther playoffs.

Happy New Year.
