While I'm on disability,my bills are piling up,isn't it the responsibility of the court appointed personal representative to make sure that I'm taken care off?

You might need to light a fire under the executor. If that is an attorney you can report him to the professional bar in your state. You should get reports showing the progress and copies of the tax returns of the estate so you will know what is being done and that the legalities are being taken care of. If this is not done, you will need to petition the court for redress.

It can take as long as 3 years, especially if there is real property involved.

My husband's father died 2 years ago (no will) and we haven't seen a penny yet. We do, however, get periodic updates from the attorney. But the fact that we could use the money now/want it now, has no bearing on the case.

No, it isn't. They have no obligation to you, whatsoever. Their obligation is to steer the issue through probate court and any litigation that arises. After three years, however, the funds should have been distributed.

As a beneficiary you have the right to see periodic reports on the estate.

You might want to talk to the County Attorney and he can direct you.
