The Florida University website suggests these five:

1. "Respect," Aretha Franklin
2. "Irreplaceable," Beyonce
3. "A Woman's Worth," Alicia Keys
4. "No More Drama," Mary J. Blige
5. "U.N.I.T.Y.," Queen Latifah

Over at Amazon, they have a 'woman's music' disc that features many favourites:

1. I Am Woman - Helen Reddy
2. Fire - Pointer Sisters
3. I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
4. Walk On By - Dionne Warwick
5. I Am Woman - Peggy Lee
6. I'm Every Woman - Chaka Khan
7. I'll Take You There - Staple Sisters
8. 9 to 5 - Dolly Parton
9. Man Smart, Woman Smarter - Roseanne Cash
10. Respect - Aretha Franklin
11. Love Is A Battlefield - Pat Benatar
12. Goodbye To You - Scandel
13. She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer
14. New Attitude - Patti Labelle

Some of these are a little old fashioned but they make for great fun at karaoke and reflect a time when women's music was strong and clear-voiced.

I also really like 'Girl' by Destiny's Child, although it's as much about friendship and support as about empowerment.

PS: Sorry about the Peggy Lee inclusion ~ she's on the list and let's face it ~ how different would we have been in HER day?

Cheers :-)

Pink - "Stupid Girl". Its modern and straightfoward - tells it like it is. Basically promotes a girl to be herself and equal to a man, as opposed to Paris Hilton, or exploited for her body.

Pinks a feminist, BTW.
