yes...while you might be hearing fireworks it is common for people to fire guns at midnight. There's a difference between the sound of guns and fireworks I thnk it did depends on where you live whether people do it or not

although some may be fireworks, as others have responded, yes....some people do actually fire their guns outside at midnight. that i know of, they don't intend to harm people, but shots that go up must come down. a friend in weslaco, tx years ago went outside to watch the fireworks at midnight and sadly ended up with a bullet in her head. LUCKILY she didn't suffer any long-term damage; the bullet was millimeters from her spinal cord. happy new year - please be safe and stay inside :-)

Quickly "Duck! Duck! and cry out to the others!Just in case a stray bullet comes your way. Esp if you are living in liberal guns-toting country. If outside in the open, cover the top of your head with your hands as some bloke may be shooting randomly into the air for bringing in the new year. So watch out for falling bullets---remember anything can happen in a very free country! Keep the celebrations safe, do not drink or drive excessively and wish you luck and safety!(May 2008 bring a CHANGE so that guns, bullets and human lives will not be cheap anymore..............)
