I was told that Yawning is an evolutionary response to our brains believeing we are lacking oxygen supply. By Yawning and inhaling deeply we suddenly get more oxygen than by naturally breathing. It's a little outdated for us now but can be assumed that yawning comes from seeing others yawn because prehistorically this could have been a response to smoke from fires etc. Seeing others needing oxygen makes your body also attempt to get some ^^
(Some people disagree with this theory though)

GOOD ONE! I personally believe it has to do more with the pressure in our ears than being tired. Then why do we do it when we are tired, you ask? I believe that this is one of the functions that we do (kinda subconciously,) all the time, (relieve ear pressure, that is,) and when we get tired, we divert more energy to other more important bodily chores, and this is not a high priority . If you think about it, your body starts shutting down a lot of things when you are tired, (like focusing your eyes), using your conscious brain, remaining vertical.... This is totally my own opinion, substansiated nowhere I know of, but makes sense to me.

It is actually to blow off excess CO2 which might have built up in the body. It is the CO2 which triggers yawning, not the lack of oxygen.

We yawn because our brain is lacking oxygen and that's the way to get it.

We generally yawn when we r tired. Yawning is an involuntary function of the body to reenergize and supply fresh oxygen to all our body cells.
(I hope I've given a nice answer)
