Sims 2 Expansion Pack?

Question

I can only get afford the game and one expansion. Which one should I get to start off?

The absolute must-have expansion pack is Nightlife. If you are able to buy Sims 2 Deluxe, you'll get Nightlife with it.

Otherwise, for the most realistic gameplay, I'd recommend Seasons. You get weather effects (snow, rain storms, thunder and lightning), plus fun new things to do all year round, like build snowmen, make snow angels, rake up leaves (and jump in the piles), catch fireflies, have water balloon fights, jump in puddles after a rainstorm ... the list goes on.

University allows you to send your teen Sims to college - which is fine if you have an interest in that, but it's something you can skip and your Sims will turn out just fine.

Open for Business has some fun features, like running your own business, but you'll be spending a lot of time there in order to make it work out well.

Pets lets you have cats, dogs, birds, a little gerbil thing ... so your Sim won't be lonely. However, it's another set of creatures you need to look out for (if you don't feed them, they die or run away).

Bon Voyage is the latest expansion pack and allows your Sims to go on vacation. Again, however, it's optional and doesn't really add much to your gameplay if you don't take your Sims on vacation.

perfectvelvet had a pretty good description. I would add that the university game (if you manage to "graduate") allows your sims six aspirations instead of four and you can lock up to two rather than just one. Happy gaming.

Hmmm.

To start off, it really depends on what you think would be an important addition to your game.

Main Ideas of Each Expansion Pack:

University- Self explanatory
Nightlife- Adds a "Downtown (eating out, clothing, bowling, gyms, etc.)
Open For Business- create businesses (can also sell certain objects, instead of working)
Pets- Self explanatory
Seasons- self explanatory
Bon Voyage- Vacation

I started off with Seasons myself. Make sure, whatever you pick, can actually work on your computer, as TS2 will take up a lot of space and has a lot of requirements.

Its up to you there are many expansion packs but my choice would be Bon Voyage because its fun, and cuz u get to log roll, and meet bigfoot,flame throw,swim on the beach etc.
