It is nothing like the rest of the state out there and they always get forgotten at elections and stuff. They just incorporate it into other states. It just kind of sticks out there and nobody lives in it.

it was originally one entire county and the area was called No Mans Land. borders had to do with a combination of Indian country, different land treaties, a territory called Cimarron, and a few other things

It keeps Texas from claiming to be that much bigger.

Its a stark area that the other surrounding states did not want. But it is supposed to be great for pheasant hunting.

Well, I think it was because there were too many square states already. Oklahoma was like, "What can I do to stand out from the rest?... I think I'll have a panhandle sticking out of my side."
And the rest is history.

It was Indian country and was finally opened for settlement later than the rest of Oklahoma.
