It is not a question of selfishness. If you accept a gift which by doing so implies greater feelings, then that is wrong. In that case, it is better to say no, then to create a false hope. If the gift is to thank someone, then just rejecting it is cruel and therefore it is kinder to accept.

accepting a gift u get at christmas or a birthday is not selfish in the least.
rejecting a gift that is really not a gift may not be selfish. but u gotta judge and most of us r not good judges.
when it comes down to it tho, choose to accept most of the time.

It is not selfish.
People normally may not want to buy gifts, but one they do, will be affronted and insulted when their gifts get rejected.

I think none of them is selfish, and depends on what the person feels. I could answer this question selfishly thinking I am God and i know everything. I can reject answering this question just because I don't think it is useful. But it depends on me. Anyway, if you reject that gift and you are selfish and the person who is giving the gift gets offended then he or she is also selfish because he/she thinks he/she doesn't deserve that treatment. Conclusion, we all are selfish, if you don't accept it, how selfish you are!! Lol! Just let's take the life as it flows and act with intelligence the most of the cases and realize when we commit mistakes, anyway to reject a gift is not very recommendable because it can generate anger or hostility. Just do it when it is extremely a case of life or dead!!!

definatly more selfish to reject a gift because the person giving it took time to choose it for you and to spend money on it and then give it to you.

Doesn't it depend upon, the circumstances of the gift ! ! !
I mean, is it a Reward for being good. Is it to show an emotion. Is it there, as an inducement. Are you aware, of all the parables associated with accepting or rejecting the gift and it goes on, from there ! ! !

Interesting dilemma. I would say to reject - because if the giver is like me, a great deal of thought went into the gift. I would accept it proudly and with love.

it is more selfish to reject a gift.
accepting a gift means you show appreciation for the thought and effort the giver put in.
rejecting a gift means you want something better (selfish)
