Well I guess that depends on if you believe that your husband is being monogamous with you or not. Ideally your husband should only be having sex with you and no one else, so then it should be safe. But if you have doubts which it seems like your are. Protecting yourself is the best way to go.

If you have to ask then I would say no, it is not safe. Trust your gut instinct. If he tells you he fell asleep on the couch at work and thats why he didn't get home til 2am..WAKE UP!
This is not just his life he is playing russian roulette with..

It depends on whether or not you or your husband have a sexually transmitted infection, while the vast majority of STIs can be easily cured and are not anything to worry about, HPV cannot be tested for in men and herpes is rarely tested for unless there are symptoms since most Americans would test positive for the herpes virus (cold sores are herpes) and it's too expensive to test if it is hsv 1 or hsv 2.

Of course pregnancy is an issue here too being that it's more damaging than most sexual transmitted infections, if you don't want to be pregnant, it would be very stupid of you to be having unprotected sex. Natural Family Planning is entirely foolish if you don't really want children, so go with 'the pill'. The pill is more effective than condoms in preventing unwanted pregnancies.

It is if you both were tested prior to marriage, and are faithful. The only thing you have to worry about is pregnancy, if you find that is something to worry about.
I find this to be one of the better things about marriage, not having to think about condoms or birth control any more. We did natural family planning, and now I have my tubes tied, so we don't even think about that anymore.
