1. probably not. JV is USUALLY meant for sophomores and possibly juniors and varsity is made up of juniors and seniors. Freshmen will have to wait one more year before trying out for highschool cheerleading. at least that's the way it is at my high school.
2. Condition. Condition. Condition. Being in good shape will really help you with your future cheerleading. Practice tumbling, jumps, and possibly get with a cheer gym to practice even more.

or just search cheerleading tips on google.
best of luck

Ask the coach what the requirements are. Also, get into a tumbling class right away.
Since you've been on dance team, you already know that you are comfortable in front of large crowds. Great! Something you can check off of the list.
If you've only done fluid graceful dance forms like lyrical and jazz, then you really need to work on tightening up and snapping motions. If you've done pom though, you probably already know about this.
Some of our jumps are the same, but some are very different, so get started working on those. The big key is to keep the chest up and to roll/flip the hips up.
This site will help you with just about everything you need to know: motions, jumps, tumbling, stunting... Make sure you go over it thoroughly so you don't miss anything:

Good luck!

k so;
at my school, cheerleading is waaay easier than dance.
i'm pretty sure if you can do dance you can do high school cheerleading.
i wouldn't do it though, but if you want check out a cheer gym.
to make your voice clear, yell.
sing in the shower.
you need some sort of tumbling too.
so roll on your floor a lot.
oh yeah.
at my school, freshman have made varsity so it's cool.
dance is better.
just, to clarify.
it's way harder.
i tried out for dance, and died.

You should check with the school to double check, but you should definitely be able to cheer even as a freshman (if you make it to jv or varsity, that is)
As far as preparing goes, many schools have training over the summer. Even if you cant go and participate, you can always go and watch them and learn some of their cheers. You can also contact the coach and see what you can do to prepare for cheer in highschool. As long as you keep dancing to keep up your flexibility and endurance, i think you'll be fine :)
Good luck!
