so how do you figure out the ip address of the computer that host the site?

1. Click START
2. Click RUN
3. In the 'Open' field, type CMD
4. Click OK or Press Enter key
5. Type PING WWW.YAHOO.COM
6. Press ENTER key and the IP address of yahoo.com will appear
7. Repeat Step 5 for other websites

FYI: The window with the black background is called the "command line." PING is one of the basic networking tools very commonly used by network admins. One other command that works is TRACERT. This is the function being used at the metacafe.com site. However, you can simply type TRACERT WWW.YAHOO.COM in place of Step 5 above to obtain the IP also, but there will be more information shown - specifically, the router hops that are taken from your computer to the website you specified in the TRACERT command.

Purchase "SmartWhois", from New Zealand, and it will plug into your IE. Will give you the IP /Host Name, or As Doman (For any webpage on the WWW).

if you receive e-mails you can right click on their message and look at properties and find the IP
