They are just checking the size of the baby to verify the due date. My earliest was at 6 weeks(the baby is a little dot). Enjoy it, it's a very emotional experience!

As others have said, they do this to determine the due date. Also, an U/S at this time of your pregnancy gives you a due date that is usually at the most 5 days off.
The other reason is to determine how many babies you're carrying.
Don't fret, it's normal to have an U/S this early, it's not because of your miscarriage.
Congrats!

You said the nurse told you it was to check the date of the fetus. If you aren't 100% sure of your LMP or if you have a history of irregular cycles, then they will check. Plus it depends on the doctor. Some like to have that reassurance, especially if you are a new patient in their practice. I am pregnant with my 5th and sometimes I have had an ultrasound before 20 weeks and sometimes I haven't. Doctors are usually very straight forward in why they are requesting that you have a scan outside of the suggested time frame. So unless your doctor has said that they are concerned that something is wrong with the baby, then don't get yourself worked up about it. Lay back, relax, and enjoy the extra opportunity to see your little one before they make their grand entrance.

I'm nearly 13 weeks and I've already had two. A dating scan at 7 weeks and another at 12 weeks (last thursday). They would just be checking that all is going well and how many babies are in there. Its very normal.
congrats and best of luck

It is normal. I had 1 at my first appointment and another at my next appointment. I had 1 at 20 weeks to. And one for some optional testing.

I had an ultrasound at about 8 weeks for all three of mine. They just want to make sure the baby is growing at the rate it should for the due dates. Good Luck!
