I have a 1998 A6. The trip computer has average gas mileage. On a regular highway trip of 100 miles, I have noticed a drop in mileage from 29 to 26. I put a few extra pounds of air in the tires and put in a new air filter. No change.
I think it is the winter gas and also wind. If I make the trip during windy conditions the mileage really drops.

The additives in winter gas, The ethanol, and check your tire air pressure. Low pressure can hurt your gas mileage. A combination of these add up :( Check for a fowled plugs also or bad wire.

They're adding 10% alcohol to the gas now, which makes it even more of a rip, but not a huge drop.

Depending on your state, Ethanol is now being mixed in with gasolene now but only at a 10% amount. Ethanol does reduce the amount of MPG that you get.

Also, you may be looking at it a different way. Say that you put $20 in gas every week. This does not fill your tank, but if you only put $20 in and drive about your usual errands eack week on that $20 in gas...and as the price of gas creeps up every week, that $20 is going to be a smaller and smaller amount of gas each week, and you may have to put more in at the end of the week to get your errands done.

And then your car might have a sensor going bad, thats always a bunch of money at the dealer....anyway, depending on the sensor, that could be causing poor fuel mileage on your car also.

It could be a bunch of different things....
