First of all, they wont live very long i will tell you that. Im not trying to be mean or anything im just telling you facts. Your tank is over stocked. General rule is 1 inch fish per gallon. Id get rid of the tetras and get another guppy. Make sure its all male or all female because they will reproduce and you dont have the room for that (Unless you have another tank). Plus, Tetras like to be in schools of 6 or more. Please do not flush any live fish down the toilet. Give them to your petstore or see if you can exchange them for a guppy. oh, To answer your question, for a 3 gallon tank, id reccommend a filter. If you do not get a filter, make sure you do 15% water changes every 2-3 days. In the long run, a filter is worth it, even if it is a sponge filter - cheap, efficent filter.

Well, if this question is sincere, then you are woefully overstocked. I sincerely recommend that you do not add any more fish. Additionally, your Comets and Black Tetra/Guppies are such different types of fish that they would do much better in tanks apart from one another. The ideal temperature and water chemistry for either of these could make the other uncomfortable enough to stress them out unnecessarily or even kill them. On the bright side, major Congratulations to you on your being able to keep them all alive so far! The word "miracle" comes to mind. All those cleanings/water changes must've really worked I am sure. I suggest 2 significantly larger aquariums. One for each of these 2 groups of fish. (especially for the comets ~ who could each grow to be 12 inches long) With the right, well-planned setups you should not have to clean your tanks more than once per week. (instead of 21 times) Less work on you, less stress on your fish. Added: Also, listen to Liz C.'s good Tetra advice. They do way better in groups of at least 5 or 6. Added Again: Well, things seem to be getting a bit better. You're headed in the right direction. You've cut your number of waste producers by 60%. However, you're still not appreciating the differences between these 2 types of fish. As a pet owner you need to research each of your animals specifically to keep them all as healthy as possible. Separating those Tropical, Slightly Acidic, Soft Warm-Water-Loving Black Tetra from the Cooler-Water, Alkaline-PH-Producing, Fast-Growing Comets would be the next best thing for you to do. Very few things can truly live happily for long in a 3 gallon bowl. (bacteria doesn't count).

yes, and that tank is to over crowded. upgrade to a 5 gallon tank please. the fish are probally not happy in there. I have 2 platys and 2 rasbora, both are smaller types of fish in a 5 gallon tank.

yes...in a nutshell...picture it this way..the water they live in is their only enviroment... they eat, breathe, and deposit waste in there...changing the water is a must on a weekly basis...while guppies and tetras dont require the o2 content of other fish a fresh oxygen supply puts less stress on the fish themselves and they thrive better...but im more concerned about the amount of fish you have in a three gallon tank...2 fish like tetras or 5 guppies would be better for them

Yes you will need a filter. Fish waste turns into ammonia and they will die. Some plants would make your fish feel much better. Plants keep your aquarium in balance. There is loads of info on the Internet. Try www.google.com or www.ask.com
If you could afford a 10 gal. aquarium it would be more fun and easier to deal with. Tap water will kill them if you don't treat their water. There are many pollutants in tap water.
