How do you feel about the Youth of America? Allow we to clarify something, I AM NOT making a generalization about teenagers. I UNDERSTAND AND ACKNOWLEDGE that a good amout of them are mature and responsible. I pray to God that those are the ones who will be running the country in twenty years.

I know what most of the responses will be: "Live life! Do what you want! Remember the 70s?"

However, I am touching upon drugs, the media, and sex. Girls having sex before 15 years old and smoking while doing it!

I understand the media is to blame mainly. The parents finish in a close second, however.

The main question is: How do we fix this?

Thanks in advance to all who answer my question respectfully, and a happy 2008!

We are the children of the baby boomer's. We are the children of the crack epidemic. We are the children of the "me, me, gimmie gimmie" generations. Girl's are having sex younger because it is human nature for people to seek out meaningful relationships and this is they way they think they can do it (and you don't find much closeness in families in my opinion). Kids who look for love and acceptance and will find more of it in corporate messages than they do at home...I mean...if there even IS anybody home (I mean if kids are lucky they see their parents from 5:30-8pm right?). Many parents are more concerned with being good consumers than good parents. More fathers than ever are simply walking away.

I am really convinced we live in a predominantly anti-child society. Kids are a nuisance, a hindrance, and a financial burden. Elderly people have told me there was a time when children were seen as blessings and hope for the future and blah blah blah...now they are a problem to fix.

We live in a profit driven world. We are told to sit down and shut up and play video games and stay out of the way. We are not taught that we have an obligation to the community. We are not taught that we have purpose (except for making money, or looking good). We are not trusted, and not given responsibility early on.

We fix it by creating jobs, modern education, and responsibilities for young people....not just mindless entertainment and consuming.

But that's not happening...we are more concerned about free trade (off-shoring young peoples job's to China) Social Security (taxing us more) and war (I'm not even gonna go there). Unlike the boomer's we are outnumbered in the voting booth, so yes, we actually have to get you guys to care! So please do!

you have some stable counsel right here. i'm bothered via the reality that Obama used a Koran to take his oath of place of work somewhat of a Bible. We would locate out he's extra of a Muslim that he's asserting, understanding that a Muslim won't be able to be elected. we don't want a computer virus.

It's up to the parents to keep things in check, seems to me a lot of parents do not know how to set a good example.

Thats a tough one. Most of our youth seem to be watching shows on MTV and VH1 that make it seem like casual sex, drugs, alcohol, and profanity are the norm. Same with the movies, MySpace, and Facebook. Couple that with the fact that kids are reaching puberty at unbelievably early ages - their hormones are raging - and they lack the maturity to handle their sexuality. I don't want government censorship....but I sure think the media needs to do a better job of self regulating their content. And parents need better parenting skills.

There will always be kids doing this, the real question is how to make it so that those involved in those horrible behaviours do not become pregnant with children that will have the same "hobbies" as their parents. People should be provided with contraceptives.

I feel pretty good about who will surface as the next generation of leaders. As a teacher I see all kinds of kids, but I most certainly see some great kids that will do great things. And some of my other students will mature and become part of the fabric of a strong United States.

Failure of parents is clearly first - media second.
