For winter ball I want to use metallic turquoise eye liner and metallic gold eye shadow. How can I do that without looking ridiculous, or worse, trashy? I have wide, almond-shaped eyes, if that helps any.

I have to stick to those colors because those are the colors of my outfit.
Black is ok though.

uhh. turquoise with gold? that sounds like too much. why not try black (or brown depending on your complexion) eye liner and then a bright eye shadow possibly with sparkles. and not too much mascara.=]

Turquoise metallic will look great with the gold. I would take the gold eyeshadow and sweep it upward from the lashline to the crease. Do not go beyond the crease. Try to make the color as solid as possible (not sheer). I imagine that you are using a pencil eyeliner, as I haven't seen many liquid turquoises on the market. Take the liner and draw a line along the lash line and around the inner corner of your eye. This will highlight your eyes. You can slightly wing it on the outer corner of your eye, but only slightly. Then take a cotton swab and lightly smudge it from the center of the eye out. This will cause the colors to somewhat blend and will make it look less contrasted. Also use a black liner on the inside of your lower lid, make sure the liner is freshly sharpened and clean to avoid irritation.
Finish the look with a very dark black mascara. I like Luxiva Extra Length Mascara by Merle Norman in Extra Black, Volume Couture mascara by Max Factor in Rich Black, and if on a budget Great Lash by Maybelline in Blackest Black.
Start by curling your eyelashes with a curler for 5-10 seconds. Then apply the mascara to the top lashes... I apply two coats... and curl again for 15-20 seconds. Use a eyelash comb to separate and define. Then apply to bottom lashes and comb.
Play down your lips by using a simple rosy toned lip gloss that is close to your natural lip color. Do not use anything too orange, like peachy tones as they will look bad with the turqouise and gold. Apply a rosy blush lightly to the apples of your cheek... to do this, smile and apply to the crests of your cheeks.
I hope this helps and you can email me if you have any questions... You will not look trashy or ridiculous.

you can buy makeup with a little more depth and color, and possibly apply a bright color to only one area of your face so you don't look like a clown. for example don't wear bright lipstick or lip gloss and bright eyeshadow at the same time. make sure you blend your eyeshadow also.

You should try yellow eyeshadow instead of metallic. I think that might look a little TOO sparkly..
and just line the bottom of your eye with turquoise eyeliner.
Hope I helped.

Just line your eyes, as opposed to globbing on the eyeliner and shadow...

a thin line of liner and just eyeshadow on your lid [not crease or browbone] also with bright eyemakeup, dont play up you other features as much.

The number one tip: Never put it up to your EYEBROWS. Honestly, I do bright eye makeup everyday, and as long as you keep it up to the crease of your eye, and not past it, it's fine.
And I would only use the turquoise underneath, and then a black eyeliner on top, then the gold eyeshadow, and LOTS of black mascara. Keep the rest of your face subtle (not a lot of blush and NO lip color, just a little peachy gloss if you must), and it'll be fine, and you'll probably get complimented for taking a risk.

You won't look like a clown, just as long as you
don't play up your lips, say like with a bright red
or a bright gold, or bright pink. It's a rule, if you
play up your eyes, don't play up your lips, and
vice versa. Apply your make-up as you always
do, it should turn out nicely.
