What are your reasons for not wanting your daughter, who has offered to be responsible and pay her own phone bills, to have a cell phone? What would change your mind? I need a range of opinions.

how can a 12 or 13 year old pay for their own cell phone? do you get a huge allowance ?

i really don't think a 12 or 13 year old needs a cell phone, unless they spend a lot of time in activities and away from home and need to call to check in or for a ride home.

both my kids lost everything until they were over 20 years old... ! i can't imagine giving a cell phone to someone young. i have other things to spend money on, and my kids never "suffered".

haha. btw; if you asked this question in the Parenting sections, i think you'd get a lot more [and better] answers.

i'm 14. i got my first cell phone when i was 10. but still, i don't think anyone who hasn't graduated college/university really needs a cell phone. parents don't want you to pay for it.! though they often say things that make us teens think that they just want us to pay for it and learn the value of a dollar, it's so not true. they don't think you need it. and don't want you going over minutes, because they've probably heard horrible stories from their friends about how their children wen to over the cell phones minutes. it gets ugly.
btw; do you have a job.? besides allowances and working chores.? good grades.? good friends.? no drugs.? obeys parents.? kind of siblings.? helps around the house.?
if you said yes to all the following, then i don't think it's about how your iresponsible, but more on how... you don't need one[x

ah; good luck.[;

ummm i don't know. talk to them about it. promise them that you'll get an A grade in almost all the subjects.... seriously. Parents don't want their children to work but do well at studies so that they can pay them later.

For starters a 12 year old child has no need of a phone, I survived until I was in college without a cell phone and the only reason I have one now is because I work on a tug boat and it is the only way to stay in contact with my family.

Well, if my child was to pay for it some way, then I would consider giving in, otherwise, no. I didn't one growing up, but we have grown so accustomed to having to be in contact with loved ones 24/7 that life with out a cell phone would be horrible.
