Well, you have one reason right for sure. People hate him because he's a Yankee. Now, why people love to hate the Yankees, I have no clue. Another reason is the fact he preforms so poorly in the playoffs. But you cant blame him, look at the stats of other Yankees. They all played terrible! Jeter didn't preform, and Damon didn't get on base enough. What are you supposed to do with the people ahead of you not getting on base? Hit a bunch of solo home runs? Also: remember the play against the Blue Jays? Great players shouldn't pull Bush League plays like that.Hmmm.... Another great reason is probably because of how good he is. Look at his numbers this past season, there outrageous! I don't even get that in video-games! The last reason is how people are so jealous of him. When people see how much money he has, the think ' hey, if he makes so much money and strikes out, shouldn't we ALL just hate him?'
Well, That's all the reasons I know.

it is kind of funny, isnt it? when he was in seattle and noone knew about him (due to the fact he was on the west coast and espn, et al ignore the west coast) noone hated him at all
it started when he signed the gargantuan contract in texas, then it became stronger when he became a yankee, and now its just the cool thing to do i guess
i dont really like him for the fact that hes always played on teams i dont like at all, and even if my favorite player went to a team i really hate, i would start hating that player too
but, you cant deny the man his talent, he is a whale of a ballplayer

He is like that co-worker in the office who snitches or starts rumors. Then he tries to come off as the victim. The only reason he doesn't get fired because he is good at his profession.

i feel like he's a celebrity that we always talk about.. not a baseball player :)
and i don't really feel the passion when he plays.. i dunno how to explain it.. uh.. it's kinda like when you see eric brynes play. it's like he just.. plays.. he plays hard like it's his last day on earth ^^ i just don't get that vibe from a rod but i hardly ever see the guy play unless he's facing the angels so hey maybe it's probably just me
but he IS great, a really fine solid player so i don't hate him at all. i'm not a hateful type anyway. no need to hate

Some people hate people because they are jealous of them. Plus he is a Yankee so they have double the hate.

I don't think not loving him and hating him are the same thing, most people I know simply aren't fans, not because of the talent, but because of everything else.
Being the 3rd big name in consecutive seasons to leave Seatle was certainly one thing.
Then, suggesting that he gets this big contract to 'help provide for his family'.
He gets this 252 million dollar contract, taking up 1/3 of the Rangers budget, then complains that they don't have anyone to put around him. Well, they were paying you like 8 players and you were performing like 1.75 players. Do the math
Then, when that wasn't working for him, they shopped him to Boston and he said he was excited to go, then it didn't pan out and the Yankees got him and it was like he wanted to be there all the time.
Bush league stuff like slapping at the glove, the 'mine' call and publically screwing around on his wife.
Then, with still the largest contract in history, he opts out after a career year, announcing it in the middle of game 4.
Since no one seems willing to give him 40 million a year, he, his agent, and the Yankees create these really transparent conditions for the Yankees to save face and for Arod to 'prove he really wanted to be a yankee' and people are naive enough to buy it.
So, in conclusion, while there is one really good thing to like about him (his talent), there are many more things not to like about him and you know what, he couldn't care less.

I AM a yankees hater, but I actually pull for A-Rod. I think he has gotten treated a bit poorly. But I do think that most hate him because of the pinstripes. . .

As a fan who watched a-rod begin his major league career I believe most of the hatred directed towards him is do to his choice and justifications for leaving the Seattle Mariners. Don’t quote me on this; I have not been a big fan of baseball since the mariners 95. A-rod at age 17 signed on with the mariners for $1 million dollars, only two other players until that point had singed for more than that. A-Rod came to the Mariners earring a lot of money, and he left because they were not paying him enough (4 million) which is about a third of what Albert Belle was making that year, which was also his last after 13 years of playing. The next year A-rod signed a 10 year contract for about $22 million a season. This act is what has earned him the nickname pay-rod and a hatred from Seattle fans - though no one can say he is not a great player.
