The Pianist of the twenties would be Fats Waller. A fascinating character. Master of the stride piano. Wrote such memorable tunes as Honeysuckle Rose, Ain't Misbehavin', The Jitterbug Waltz, The Joint Is Jumpin' and Keepin' Out Of Mischief now. Larger than life, flamboyant Genius.

Do a quick search for andrew carnage or george vanderbilt. There are lots of aggressive businessmen from that era. I can not remember a lot of names at this moment but carnage was a righter of such book as "How to win friends and influence people" among many others. Just do a search lots of great men.

How about people that are usually ignored when doing this kind of project?
Since you mentioned pianists, how about some jazz musicians?
Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong...or Lillian Hardin, she played the piano, composed music and arranged for many popular bands. Lemon Jefferson, he was blind since childhood, yet he was a famous guitarist and blues singer.
Langston Hughes, the Harlem Renaissance writer. Georgia O'Keeffe, the artist. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author. Clarence Darrow, the lawyer (he defended John Scopes in the famous trial). Jack Dempsey the boxer.
