As a person who was born & raised in the South i grew up seeing this flag. Not one time did i associate it with slavery. To me it was & is Southern symbol of freedom. It is bull that people have turned it into a racist thing. You have to be a Southerner to understand i guess.

to me it stands for southern heritage, both the good and the bad. we must remember our past mistakes and glories to avoid repeating our mistakes and to hopefully repeat our glories.
and as to the guy who asked about if "freedom to own slaves" that is not what the civil war was about, it was about the rights of states to govern themselves with out the interference of the federal government. it was only proclaimed to be about slaves later in the war and after the war to excuse the fact that the federal government wanted more control. i am not saying i think owning slaves was good, but simply that history is written by the victor

I call it a rebel flag too. To me it just stands for the south, Hillbillies, and rednecks. I am not a racist either. I know there are a lot of them and a lot are red necks but not all of us and I think it is a shame that they have put such a bad name on our southern heritage.

Confederate flag means you still wish slavery to exist not rebellion. Create your own flag or symbol if you want to rebel, confederate flag offends fyi.
