i'm not really sure if there is any way to know for certain. the best thing to do is get a prepaid credit card, nothing you use all the time, just one you can put a few dollars on and then throw away after you use it. go to the online store and order the cheapest thing on there, something that cost a few bucks, so if they take your money, then they wont have any real information on you and it wont be very much money, and if they actually send your stuff, then you can probably trust them, just be careful, because there are some places online that will take whatever they can from you and not think twice about it. good luck.

On Ebay you need to read the feedback and history on the seller.
This is an ebay store, but they sell mostly new books, but at reasonable prices - they even have a sale going on now. They have something going where if you buy several items from them you get free shipping.
They also offer free gifts and gift wrapping with your purchases. Nice customer service. I've purchased from them a few times and I've always been happy with my purchases.

The easiest way is to see if they are listed on a ratings site such as www.resellerratings.com and to read the opinions and ratings there. Resellerratings.com in particular is a good source to use because they take precautions to ensure that companies don't log onto the website and create false ratings to make them look good. Any such attempts are detected and highlighted.
Another good method is to use Google. Search for the store's name, and look for any indications of positive or negative experiences with them. Search thoroughly until you are convinced that they are either good or bad.
Lastly... tell us what site you're talking about. Somebody here might know about it.

Well not all good companies are registered with the better business bureau. I usually make sure the site looks professional. Check the BBB.org - even if they are not a member - if they have had problems people can report it free and it will show up. If they take credit cards, you can always file a chargeback if they don't send your merchandise. if they take Paypal, that is usually a good sign. Also call them to see if they sound professional and its actually a real number
