78 is a fairly normal reading, even if marginally on the low side of normal. However, if your blood sugar tends to be on the high side, you may feel shaky even when its not really too low, because your body can get used to high blood sugar and over react to a normal but lower than your personal average. Test your fasting morning blood sugar, it should be between about 80 and 100. Also test after supper, at one hour and again at two hours from the start of your meal. Your blood sugar should be between 100 and 125. If its over, you may be prediabetic. Do this for three or four days and write down the results. If you see higher readings than these, you should get tested for diabetes. The best test is the HbA1c, which doesn't require fasting, and shows your average blood sugar for the past 3 months. Its not affected by what you ate for supper the night before, or what you had for breakfast that day. Home testing meters can be up to 20% off in either direction and certainly can't be used to diagnose diabetes. Besides, only a doctor can diagnose with any certainty. Just FYI, your height and weight have nothing to do with it. Normal ranges are the same for everyone. Diabetes is more likely after age 40, and its a very good idea to get the HbA1c test done every year once you hit 40 or become overweight.
