There are a few great law schools in the area (Georgetown, GW, Maryland) -- but the ten best law schools ar elocated in:

1. New Haven, CT
2. Cambridge, MA
3. Palo Alto, CA
4. & 5. New York, NY
6. Philadelphia, PA
7. Chicago, IL
8. Berkeley, CA
9. Ann Arbor, MI
10. Durham, NC

As for practicing law -- it is a great place if you want ot work for the government. But Philadelphia and New York are better places if you want a high salary.

The best place to go to law school, unless you get into one of the top 14 or top 25 law schools in the country, is a place (city, state or region) where you would like to work once you graduate.

The best place to practice law is totally subjective. If you want big money, DC is not better than NYC, LA or Chicago.
