Don't buy a car that someone else says is ugly or tells you horror stories. Trust what you like. I have 2 in my family and have no major issues and both get 28-34 MPG depending on driving. Those #'s are from manual math not using the cars computer (although it was the same). The Cobalt is not a top of the line car and is not priced like one. Also GM puts a factory powertrain 8yr/80,000 mile warranty on that car which gives you piece of mind that you won't have alot of repair costs.
Again no 1 persons opinion should persuade your decision but I have had great luck with these cars.

Why would they make up stories? They are the replacment to the Cavalier, which was crap too (I had a 95 z24 that had something wrong with it every other week) I know for a fact that they don't have dipsticks...((My boyfriend used to work at an oil lube place.)) Plus they're uglyyy

They're pieces of crap. I own an 06 LS model with a little over 17,000 miles on it. Its been in the shop more than its been driven. The transmission had to be rebuilt at 16,436 miles due to GM's cheap parts. They're not worth looking at. There's a horrible wind rush at highway speeds, the trunk opening is way to small, there's hardly any room in the back seat. I average about 32MPG with the 5 speed. Automatic transmissions are also pieces of crap, there's no dipstick to check the fluid (unless you want to jack up the car crawl underneath and remove the check plug). The interior is cheap, the AC condensor leaks water onto the passenger side floor. Overall, it was GM's very very poor attempt at replacing the problematic Chevy Cavalier. Which they didn't better themselves any.

I rented a Cobalt once with fewer than 10,000 miles on it, and the interior was already falling apart. I was really glad I hadn't bought one when I was car shopping a few months earlier.
