I understand the bad writing, bad acting, low budget, etc thing. I just think on occasion they would at least accidentally make a sequel that isn't unwatchable. If I'm wrong and there are good direct to DVD sequels list them. But I have seen a lot of movies and I haven't found a direct to DVD that isn't simply wretched.

If it wasn't so gawd-awful they would have shown it in the theaters first. Direct-to-DVD is used for cheaply-made movies for uncritical audiences.

Typically it's not always the writing or even the acting, it is a money issue, where you can't get what you want, but with indie movies, you take what you can get, it wont always be a masterpiece. And a lot of it does have to do with if your making a sequel and don't have the same people in it, that can cause problems right there, where you basically have a whole different movie which could be separate from the first on.
Even if the script is a low deal, but you have good acting that can pull it off, you can still have a good decent movie.
