What if we were given a receipt that could be given to an official from the candidate you voted for? I know that would take a lot of effort, but if people were willing to validate or double check the polls, couldn't that help eliminate some the issues? I know that my solution has holes in it, but what could be a reasonable and effective method of proving that our votes weren't changed?

So, you think that most of the electronic voting stations are fail safe?
I have already stated that my solution was porous, and I only used it as an example of what I was looking for.
You're telling me that if you went to a polling place, waited in line, and then voted you wouldn't take an extra 5 minutes to have your vote verified by your candidates election official? If people take the time to go there, I'm sure that most people wouldn't have an issue with a validation. Electronic machines have been proven susceptible to kindergarten hackers, and they eliminate a paper trail. Regardless of who you voted for in the last election, you would have noticed how the current procedures were, in fact, flawed.

Have a voting eliminination day. Vote for the person you LEAST WANT and then at the end of the day, that one with the most "NOT THIS CLOWN" votes is permanently off the ticket. No write ins allowed. Only two candidates will be left.
Then for the second vote, vote for the person you actually do want.

Please sign up to work at the polls. If you don't get yourself booted out of training class, you will discover the protections ALREADY in place are MUCH more effective and LESS prone to tampering than what you propose. Besides, the 99% of voters that would not bother to turn in the receipts would render them less than worthless.

I am encouraging people to ask their county to place them on a permanent list for absentee voting. If you travel for work, take care of kids or the elderly, or have an illness you can get the ballot sent to your home for each election. The mail carrier has to give it to you in person so there is a paper trail if you get the receipt. Also a list is a verification that you were to receive a ballot. I don't trust the traditional elections anymore. I personally know of people who were not given the chance to vote because some mixed up poll worker got the rules wrong in her head and thought a disabled person "had to have" an ID. This has been a mess in several states so I think that absentee voting is the way to go. Also you can vote ahead of election day in your county with absentee if you are not at home to receive the mail. I would make a video record of the vote and be sure to ask for documentation of your vote. From time to time go to the county and check your personal voting record. Lots of errors there too. Happy New Year!!
