Everyone has different experiences. For me, student teaching was a 15 week nightmare that taught me nothing except how to deal with nightly migraines. Many of my friends, however, had wonderful experiences.

Currently, I am a teacher's assistant. i have been an assistant for the last two years for three grade levels and four different teachers. I found that being an assistant has taught me more about classroom management and lesson planning than student teaching did. I cringe when I think of the poor students I student taught.

Don't get me wrong- student teaching, when done correctly, is a worthwhile experience, and if I'm not mistaken, I believe everyone has to do it, but I could be wrong about that. I just find that assisting has prepared me more. I teach 5 different reading groups each day when I'm not assisting, and being an assistant prepared me more. whatever you decide, good luck!

stick it out with the student teaching. as a TA, co-teacher, educational aide, etc you will be spending more time on duty assignments and babysitting random classes than if you student teach. as a student teacher you are also able to spend more time during planning period w/your team and that will assist you in planing and preparing your own lessons down the road.

if you do choose to become an aide($$$)...discuss your situation with your campus administrator and lead teacher and make them aware of your situation and that you desire 'true' classroom experience as far as being given the opp. to plan and teach your own lessons.

good luck...teaching can be difficult at times, but it is worth it!

Neither. Get your Bachelor's degree and teach on a provisional license for a year. You will be evaluated just like a student teacher would and still get paid the regular teacher's salary. After one year of successful teaching, you can apply for a professional teaching license. Student teachers get paid NOTHING. Teacher's aides get paid horribly. But teachers on a provisional license get paid money that they can live off of.

Im not sure if I understand you correctly.

All states require student teaching as one of the pre-requirements to an initial credential. So even if you begin work as a TA to get an idea of the classroom environment, you still will be required to do a student teaching portion before the school recommends you to the state for a credential.

good luck!
