You can do some drills from the site below, but please do not actually do the BHS on your own. Get a trained spotter for that. http://geocities.com/aescougarcheer/basics.htm#td

Get lessons at a gym... Also can learn much more than a backhand spring. Nothing like cheer leading either. Great way to stay in shape and make new friends and learn hard moves at the same time. Work hard and have fun

You need to be strong in your arms, stomach and legs. When you do a backhandspring, you start with your arms up then you swing your arms down and up then push with your legs and sit back like your sitting in a chair ( thats where leg strength comes in). You are in the air and you pull your legs a little bit and you'll be in a handstand and then you need to block with your shoulders not with your elbows (thats where your arm strength comes in). Then as you block off, you need to squeeze every muscle in your body, especially your stomach. Then you stick it and you did it. To get the strength that you need you need to push your limits, you have to feel the burn. No pain, no gain. You can do pull ups, push ups, crunches, sit ups, squat jumps, and mountain climbers to get your strength up. I hope that helps.

Strong abs will make it easier to pull ur legs over, strong arms will help u hold ur self up better, and doing it with a spotter first will help ur body know how to do it when u wan to try it by urself. Good Luck!(Im a cheerleader)trampoline will also help u get the feel of the back handspring before doing it on the florr make sure u have it PERFECT on the tramp then take it to the floor w/ a spotter

well its best to take gymnastics lessons cause we do 4 cheerleading but if u dont want to as long as you have the backbend you have to have LOTS of upper body strength

You need to build up your upper body muscles in your arms. Try getting some weights start off with some 5lbs dumbells do some reps google exercises for the upper body. The extra muscle you gain should help you when you push off to do the back handspring. hope this helps.
