It can help you much more than if you were a top pick. If you were a top pick anyway, a mediocre interview probably won't hurt you and a great one would just confirm what they already suspected about you. On the other hand, if you are a marginal candidate, the interview can make a huge difference. I've had interviews with students who didn't interest me much on paper, but as soon as they started talking, my immediate thought was, "We have to get this person a scholarship!". Your personality, enthusiasm, thoughtfulness - all can come through in an interview much more than on paper.

I read that an interview can be very beneficial (ie in revealing important facets of your personality, interests, etc.) ... and that unless you have something to "hide" -- personality disorder, "extreme shyness," other odd things -- it's worth doing. Of course, you'll want to prepare, dress properly, think through ways to provide the interviewee insight into why you're a good candidate for their school, etc.

The interview comes into play at the very end of the admissions process. The committee will check all your transcripts, test scores, etc. and then look at your interview last. If they're satisfied with all your other records, they'll check the interview just to confirm that you're a good pick. If they're a bit unsure after looking through your records, that's when the interview becomes really important.

So technically, yes, the interview can help you get in, but it's not a sure ticket. It's always best to perform 110% at an interview; you have nothing to lose, right? ;)

Under some rare occasions, yes. If the person who interviewed you has some power in the admissions board, they can give your application "special consideration." Good luck to you

If you make a good impression, yes but if you make a bad impression it could also hurt your chances. My advice is do an interview but be sure the dress appropriate, be on time, be polite, prepare questions to ask the interviewer, be prepared to talk about your extracurriculars, volunteer work, what you learned, grades, high school experience etc, and write a thank you note after.

Good luck!

absolutely this is the most important part.
we learned how to d this properly in marketing ed class (my teacher is a pro! is a millionaire and wasin business for 34 years! hiring and admittance interviews are the same!)
be sure to do the following for almost guarunteed results!
1. GNAP (greeting, name, association, purpose)
2. sit proper
3. just in case DRESS UP! ie: suit
4.state interest in getting in
5. thank for the oppurtunity
6. as soon as you get home mail a thank you card with teh persons name and again thanking for the time/oppurtunity and restating your interest. interested in getting in and the thank you card are what they look for!
