I just started reading Death Note. My friend think HE is a girl but i think HE is a guy cause i think HE likes Misa.

Rem (レム, Remu?)
The female shinigami who first gives Misa her Death Note and trades her for the Shinigami eyes. Similar to Ryuk, Rem possesses two Death Notes; however, she purposely gives one of them to Misa Amane. Rem inherited her second Death Note from Jealous, another shinigami who died when he saved Misa's life, and thought it only right to pass it on to Misa. Rem inherits Jealous' love for Misa as well and is prompt to defend Misa even at the cost of her life. Rem shows this when she states that she will kill Light if Misa dies before her time.

To be honest, gender is hardly evident in the Shinigami realm. Though Rem may be female, I think intimate relations between Shinigami would be stretched, or hyperbolic.
I think it would be safe to say that Rem s appearance definitely seems to retain female traits, however I think that stating one s gender as a Shingami is redundant. Since Rem also seems to have male traits or characteristics, I m thinking of Shinigami as non-binary. However I suppose if it is stated in the manga/anime that Rem is female, well then she s female. However I m not really sure where your sources are for this, because I don t really remember them specifying.

Rem is a girl and there is more than one type of love and even if it is "love love", just because rem is a girl wouldn't change that possibility.

Rem is a FEMALE shinigami.
In one of the mangas, it does say "she" when refering to Rem.
Unfortunately, in the Japanese movies, Rem's voice sounds like a male's.
I haven't heard it in the anime though.
Rem cares for Misa because of another shinigami. That "other" shinigami, loved Misa. One day an unknown man confessed his love for Misa, Misa rejected him, and the man was about to stab her to death. By expanding Misa's lifespan, the other shinigami crumbled into sand. As he was dying, he told Rem to take care of Misa for him. Rem did take care of Misa and also died for her.

she's a female shinigami, she likes misa because some shinigami liked her before and sacrificed his life to save her, that's why Rem is helping misa, but hey, she's a girl....
