Yes, your definition is literally true. However, many people that are experienced observers of ariel phenomena (astronauts, pilots, meteorologist, etc.) have seen UFOs and given many of these people's knowledge about aircraft, weather balloons, and natural weather phenomena the fact that they can't reasonably identify these things means that the object is correctly identified as unidentified.
When a trained investigator (MUFON link below) is reporting on an investigation the education, experience, and expertise of the witness is recorded. While 8 year old Johnny's unexplained sighting might not be given much weight (perhaps unfairly) a USAF F-15 fighter pilot's sighting is given a lot of weight.
No UFO does not imply an alien or extraterrestrial craft and this should like any other scientific investigation should only be considered after all normal explanations are reasonably eliminated.
Unfortunately, believers conclude unexplained means aliens and psuedoskeptics dismiss (in other words do not do or support investigations into the matter). Thus, real information like currently unknown weather phenomena and information on human perception of atmospheric events never gets properly investigated and science does not advance or expand in this area.

About 99% of the people in here will agree with you on the first one. But what they don't seem to understand is the fact that UFO can also stand for Extraterrestial vehicle, F.Y.I. pilots during WW2 would tell about seeing UFO's all over the place .,,,,,,,Hummm......I wonder what UFO stood for,,,,Humm i Wonder what UFO stands for now?.. You'll be amazed on how much attention this acronym has gotten over decades. Maybe people should start opening their eyes on what the UFO community is trying to do. Give them more credit, instead of laughing at anyone who believes in UFO's(real ufos).

What do you call something flying that you almost know what it is? Like maybe a UFO. Not sure if it's a UFO.

A UFO is any aerial object which cannot be identified by the observers of it. Depending on the eyewitness's familiarity with known aerial objects, such as airplanes and such, a UFO can be either terrestrial or extraterrestrial.

The term UFO is meant to describe anything that is flying and unidentifiable. It needn't be of extra-terrestrial origin.

i think it is actually something that someone can not identify.. means as you said.. it could be anything like a bird but that person does not know.. but due to our own way of thinking about it.. its aliens..
so if you ask me.. it can be a bird or plane..

Simply being unidentified does not, as you say, imply the object flying is of alien design.

You are correct, a UFO is anything flying that is an object that is not identified. If there is a cloud that doesn't look like a cloud or is oddly shaped and can't be identified, it is a UFO. An airplane can be a UFO. Therefore, there is no relation between UFOs and extraterrestrial things. However, 95% of people will associate the two. This is because when the human mind cannot understand something, it attempts to come up with an explanation. Often, the explanation is not the most logical. For example, if one sees an object that is flying and unidentified, it is easy for the mind to suddenly think that an alien is invading earth. Rather, it is more likely that it is a bird or a plane or a blimp or even superman :)
